Former Chair of House Liquor Control Committee Harris Served as BOP Deputy Director since 2019.
HARRISBURG, PA – The Brewers of Pennsylvania (BOP), the state’s official brewers guild, has named Adam Harris, former Chair of Pennsylvania’s House Liquor Control Committee and Deputy Director of the BOP, as the organization’s new Executive Director. In addition to leading association efforts on membership, operations and professional development, Harris will also serve as main point of contact for industry advocacy and government affairs, both state and federal.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Brewers of Pennsylvania we are delighted to promote Adam Harris as the new executive director,” said BOP president Chris Lampe. “His thorough understanding of our evolving needs as an organization and demonstrated leadership in the legislative arena will help elevate Pennsylvania craft beer for years to come.”
Prior to joining the BOP as Deputy Director in January 2019, Harris spent 16 years as a member of House of Representatives and four years as a legislative staffer bringing his total Capitol experience to over 20 years. As Chair of the House Liquor Control committee, Harris helped usher in many much-needed pro-consumer/pro-beer reforms to the state’s antiquated liquor laws. Act 166 of 2016 allowed beer distributors to sell six packs (and down to the single unit and growlers, as well) and allowed PA brewers to promote their products by allowing PA wineries and distillers to also sell Pennsylvania beers at their locations. He also received the Brewers of Pennsylvania Legislative Champion Award in 2017.
“2020 has been an extremely challenging year for Pennsylvania Breweries. The BOP has played a leadership role in all areas of regulatory changes and legal interpretation. Membership and engagement in the Brewers of Pennsylvania is at its highest priority” noted Harris. “I am excited to lead BOP efforts and ensure the Pennsylvania beer community remains a thriving, economic impact for the Commonwealth.”
Dan LaBert, the Brewers of Pennsylvania founding and long time Executive Director, announced his 2020 resignation plans to the board of directors in December of 2018. This allowed the Brewers of Pennsylvania to hire Harris as Deputy Director in January 2019 and strategically on-board him regarding the day-to-day activities, BOP strategic plans and all advocacy efforts. The Brewers of Pennsylvania Board of Directors wishes to thank Dan LaBert for his 9 years of tireless leadership and advocacy on behalf of craft brewers throughout the State. While the BOP will all miss LaBert, Harris’ leadership and vision brings a new and exciting chapter to the ongoing story of the BOP. The Board is looking forward to working closely with Harris to further assist the BOP in realizing its goals and mission to further connect and empower the craft brewers of Pennsylvania through advocacy, professional development and industry leadership.
